In the spirit of our newfound appreciation for things we previously would have taken for granted i.e. going out, seeing live music and meeting up with friends, I finally ventured up to Blackpool to the famous Waterloo Music Bar to support Firekind and Jack J Hutchinson. It’s a trek from Birmingham, especially on a Friday afternoon, not one of my brightest ideas, but wow what a venue! If you’re a Motorhead fan drop what you’re doing and go, right now, their memorabilia is second to none, brilliant atmosphere, warm welcome by all inside, this is a live rock music venue done right and I can’t wait to return again and again.
So onto the music, which the crowd here are clearly out for in force tonight. Devon trio Firekind are first up and as the set progresses I am impressed by how tight these guys are on stage. I admit I don’t know the words to the songs (yet!) but still thoroughly enjoyed watching them live, mark of a good band that! They rip through a set largely taken from their album ‘What I have Found Is Already Lost’ we are treated tonight to ‘It’s Not Over’, ‘Adrenalin’, ‘If There’s Any Reason’, ‘Cry For Help’, ‘Defend’, ‘These Are The Thoughts’, ‘Desolate’, and my current favourite ‘Sound of Rain’. The boys exit to big cheers. I’ll be keeping a close eye on them and be very interested to see where they go from here.
Jack J Hutchinson takes the stage, he will forever hold a special place in all our hearts here at MMH, as you may have recently seen our legendary breakfast DJ Tony Heare sadly lost his spirited battle against cancer, towards the end Tony, try as he might, he was unable to attend his beloved Stonedead festival, knowing how much he was missing live music, Jack decided to take the music to Tony and played a mini concert in Tony’s living room, it was a very special thing and one we will never forget. Onto the music. If you like your rock traditional, blues tinged and guitar driven you’re in the right place tonight and Jack certainly delivers that and looks the part commanding the Waterloo stage well, my favourites are included in the set ‘Call Of The Wild’ and ‘Deal With The Devil’ and this Brummy girl is made to feel right at home with a cover of ‘War Pigs’ with some Zakk Wylde-esque moves thrown in for good measure! Jack mixes up the set well from his releases, I grabbed a copy of the setlist for you to feast your eyes on below.
The tour kicks off again this coming Thur 21st October and runs right through until the end of November, they are almost certain to be hitting a town near you, check out the dates in the tour poster below and hit up www.jackjhutchinsonmusic.com for tickets!
