The City Kids – Things that never were

(Released 1st May 2020)

When your debut album features Kory Clarke and Tracci Guns there must be something going on. JJ Watt has been around for a while and with external factors out of his control he found himself at a loose end and as in many a rock’n’roll story formed a band. Into this story come Dennis Post , Berty Burton and Dave Sanders. The names may not be familiar, but their other bands include Warrior Soul, Tigertailz and Falling Red should be.The overarching word you should be looking for now is sleaze, and that is exactly what TCK are, a sleazy punk rock band and a mighty fine one at that.

The album is a collection of ten tracks evolved from former bands, demos and jamming produced by Dave Draper (Wildhearts)  and they keep to that well-trodden formula of  riff, chorus and solo in a 3 minute song , but all have been done with passion and play well through my stereo. I could write reams on how good this is but to be honest it may get lost in translation, words don’t equal music, give it a spin and find out for yourself. My pick of the bunch are Words of a fool, Rats, Left behind and the opener Best of you.

In these scary and damaging times, there is little to hang hope on , however, there is one certainty and that is if we get out of this mess alive there is going to be one hell of a party to celebrate where we can all rejoice by dancing, drinking and fucking and The City Kids will bring the soundtrack and it’s called Things that never were .
