The Sweet rocked KK’s on Saturday! Mitz was there and gives an insight from that night. If you don’t go down on this, Someone Else Will!!!
**What is there to say about last night’s gig?
When you go to see any band you’ve loved for the better part of your life – you can expect a great night. And what a great night it was. The Sweet rocked KK’s and we want more!!!
After travel disruption across the country – me and a friend (a fellow Sweet fan) finally headed in to the venue. We caught the majority of Tony Wright‘s support set, which held it’s own greatly. Tony has always been a great entertainer and before we knew it, the set was over. A very short break to the bar and then the headliners were ready. WE WANT THE SWEET!!!
**It should be noted that Andy Scott‘s incarnation of this band has been there longer than the original line up and they’re still nailing it. Put aside what you knew and hold dearly – look at the now!
So how were the band? They not only sounded on form – but it sang true for the crowd. Peeking from the far right side of the barrier the band came on to the first few opening notes of Action and took the stage. And at that point – I let myself go!
Bruce (Drums) looked like he was having the time of his life from the get go alongside the rest of the band. Lee Small’s playing and backing vocals set the tone against Paul’s solid vocals with harmonies that were perfectly in unison alongside Andy. It works and works very bloody well.
The band gave us the a blistering number of classics (to be fair I have a very sore throat as i’m typing this from singing too much). My favourite selections from that set: Burn On The Flame / Set Me Free / Little Willy / Hellraiser / Teenage Rampage / Love Is Like Oxygen – and also dropping other tracks such as New York Groove, the great Windy City (Well whoever was stood by us made it a windy venue of an aromatic venture – thanks for that) and last year’s top notch single, Everything. To be fair – I was 2 beers in and we were having too much of a great time to absorb every single detail – and that is what you need in a gig. We felt at home! Bouncing back for the encore and closing on The Ballroom Blitz. This bloke (and many others) were very happy campers!
The band thanked the gig goers, the staff to the stage support and loaders. Something which long standing bands often don’t do. Andy thanked stations for playing the new material – something which most mainstream stations avoid. But for those that feel it and share those new tracks – we’re still keeping it alive in support (The Sweet are part of the furniture in my shows)
This date at KK’s was the band’s last but one date of the tour – and it really shone. Rock City (tonight) will in no doubt be a blinder
For all the albums, singles, gigs from that original explosion through the 80’s, Sweet-Life and to today up following Isolation Boulevard and whatever comes next – The Sweet are still very much here. And they are here to stay!
Many thanks to Noble PR and to The Sweet lads!!!
