It was the start of a tedious ride for Vicious Nature, when original vocalist Andy Pyke decided to hang up his mic. The band auditioned over fifty wannabe replacements, from all over the globe and it took more than a year to finally get their man. The Mighty Wraith and Devils Dice frontman, Matt Gore was approached early on by the band, but he wasn’t available, however over the months the situation changed and after a successful audition, he was on board. A sold out show in Rugeley and a couple of local gigs also in the Midlands, proved Matt fitted in perfectly with V.N. Since then, they have been over to Belgium to play the new tracks in front of their devoted European fans and recently launched the EP here in the UK, in front of a well packed audience at The Station in Cannock.

The sound of rumbling thunder introduces ‘No Compromise’, which has the same feeling of fearfulness as an approaching storm. It’s the way Andy Southwell writes, he has this ability to turn peril and apprehension into enjoyable listening. A low range of chords and Matt’s incredibly disturbing, yet encapsulating words are welded around a simple riff and Southwell produces some virtuoso guitar to enhance the track, with a melting of metal finish. The title song ‘Moment Of Impact’ has you in its grasp from the very beginning. How can you play just half a dozen notes and make such an amazing kick of an ear-worm ? This is written with everything baked to perfection, the catchy riff, the (dare I say) melody and the outrageously glorious drumming from Jon ‘J.B’ Brown, rounding it up. Even as it shores up midway with Matt demonstrating his vocal range, there is space to add a guitar solo that holds the notes impeccably. It fades out with that repetitive riff lodged in your ears and increasing cries from Matt. Of course you aren’t gong to get love songs from Vicious Nature, they are out to entice you and awaken your senses with formidable encounters, if one title sums that up, it has to be ‘Hate Revelation’. A more complex composition, bending and wavering at every opportunity, it races with Declan ‘Paddy’ Parry’s bass maintaining the foothold. Resolute sticks by J.B again and the vocals are brutally laid to bare, it seems Matt was free to add his personal touch on this one. Naturally Southwell is not far away, those frets are glowing from the unrelenting barrage and he’s as painstakingly meticulous as ever.

After the last album ‘VII’ which was released in 2018, Vicious Nature fans have had to remain patient for new music. This three track EP, that includes the eponymous ‘Moment Of Impact’ (which I consider their finest song to date), has at last, satisfied the fans hunger. I hear word that a follow-up album to ‘VII’ is being considered and hopefully that will descend on us next year.
