A new band, formed by old friends and former bandmates, The Torn Threads promise to deliver more Roll than Rock, adding splashes of Southern ‘Country’ Comfort. Andy Knott on drums, guitarist Andy Mewse and vocalist Stephen Church are bonded by past encounters and are part of a wider musical family that have interlinked with several successful projects such as ‘Psychobabylon’, ‘Spill Sixteen’, ‘The Gasoline Queens’ and of course ‘Silverjet’ who are still gigging regularly.
‘Honey Soaked’ is a warm ballad, with loads of depth. It glides with mellow tones from Andy Mewse and certainly has a laid back attitude. Andy Knott’s sticks are kept simple, giving the song the right amount of rhythm. I hadn’t heard Stephen Church before and I just adore his vocals. A mix of Frankie Miller, Spike and maybe Chris Robinson, as there are slight elements of The Black Crowes on here. The backing harmonies have gospel vibes as well, to round it off perfectly.
If this is an example of what ‘The Torn Threads’ are going to provide us with, then count me in. A great introduction to new music that has snippets of what has gone before, but is as fresh sounding as you can get. They may add a bassist in the near future, which would work well.
