The four-piece Danish melodic hard rockers SILVERA return to centre stage once more with the release of their second and highly anticipated album, World Behind Doors. Although Michael Krogh, Simon Krabbesmark and Rasmus Lindegård Hovde have been playing together for almost a decade, they are relative newcomers to the scene as SILVERA. Martin Nielsen joined the band in 2020, replacing Jens Gade on drums.

Their debut album Edge of the World gained popularity on streaming platforms – amassing an amazing four million listens on Spotify – and SILVERA continues to maintain its core sound on World Behind Doors while at the same time exploring different production processes.

SILVERA take their inspiration from classic and hard rock and are described as for fans of Volbeat, Alter Bridge and Nickelback. Released by Mighty Music, World Behind Doors was recorded at Hansen Studios with the well-known Danish producer Jacob Hansen, who has worked with Epica and Arch Enemy amongst others. Collaborators on the album also include Dreamshade and Guarnica Mancini (former lead singer of Thundermother).

On first listen, the melodic hard rock sound and memorable choruses of World Behind Doors makes you feel like you could just as easily be listening to SILVERA on a large arena stage rather than in your living room. The album’s title track, World Behind Doors is the ideal album opener, picking up pace as it moves into a catchy, yet still high-powered chorus. Although the abrupt ending felt slightly less comfortable than, say a refrain or repeat, this did not really detract from an opening track that otherwise sets the tone for the rest of the album. The energy from the opener continues into the next track, Sane and its powerful riff through the bridge is well worth the listen.

Taking a step back, Utopian very much feels like a track where the band have taken the opportunity to experiment more in the studio, but the different elements do combine to otherwise produce a well-rounded track. Death of Me continues in a similar style, also incorporating electronic elements.

The slower paced Gone Too Far is ballad-like and the collaboration with Guarnica Mancini on the track creates a powerful duet. The vocals for this and the rest of the album were recorded at Martin Buus’ studio and this collaboration with Buus has helped enhance Krogh’s vocal range.

The next track, Lifeline has been made available pre-release and if you are new to SILVERA, this will give you a sneak peek of the new material:

Following on from Lifeline, the guitar driven chorus in Masquerade allows the album to pick its pace up once more before easing back in Patience, which really showcases Krogh’s vocal range at the forefront of the track. In Same As Before the high octane energy returns and as in previous tracks, the cohesion of the band is really evident. D.I.D. with its incredibly catchy chorus is followed on with the poignant Show Me How To Live, and Betrayal ends the album in the same way that it started – with a hard rocking opening and very memorable chorus.

The guitars, bass and drums meld together well across the album, with Krogh’s vocals bringing the final touch to tracks that explore a range of themes including, but not limited to life, love and loss. This helps make World Behind Doors a treat of seriously hard rocking tracks complete with catchy choruses, along with the occasional powerful ballad thrown in for just for good measure.
