With Ex Bassist Dan Podbery

Let me enlighten you a little more, about this Oxford Based outfit. Fronted by Simon Gee on vocals/guitar and Jowie Adkins on drums, it’s a partnership that produces cutting edge rock with an emphasis on hard hitting lyrics, intense riffs and low, dirty rhythms. With bassist Dan Podbery, (who has since left the band), the guys have been seen at countless gigs and festivals, gathering a massive fanbase. The album is composed of ten original tracks and has been produced by Mike Exeter (  Black Sabbath, Tony Iommi, Judas Priest, Cradle of Filth, Those Damn Crows, Massive Wagons) who’s also a renown Sound Engineer. It’s available via The ‘Molly Makes Records’ label.

‘You Don’t Know My Name’ is the opening track, it was the first single release off the album and the Radio Stations loved it. Rolling in with a guitar hook that lasts in various guises throughout, the song has a rousing aura surrounding it, especially when the title lyrics are thrown at us. A break with a guitar solo and then it’s back to the helm, with the delicious flow of words, a very appealing start. ‘In The Night’ has Jowie keeping the tempo high and he carries the track superbly. More free falling vocals from Simon, which then allow this one to feature another six string piece of worth. The second single ‘Higher Than The Sun’ has a heavier groove and the sound is not only louder but the vocals ebb and flow like the tide, giving the whole four minutes a sense of beautiful desolation. The band state that the song tackles the significant subject of sexism. Quote – “We live in a patriarchal society, which holds back women in numerous areas of their lives. As men, we can’t possibly hope to understand it, but we can recognise it and stand against it.”

Onto ‘Faceless’ that pokes and prods with a rhythm that again, Jowie handles with masterful sticks. There’s more of a mix as it runs, twisting the direction and it also has a simple chorus. ‘Cult of Personality’ ( Not a ‘Living Colour’ cover, although that would sound pretty cool ) no this is a punch drunk, kick in the head number that is nothing short of pulverising perfection. Leaving you wanting, I love the way it ricochets. The title track ‘Breaking Out’ thuds a little heavier and Simon produces a range of vocals. A track with rumbling bass and some mighty guitar chords that give it tons of lushness. ‘Black Flame’ however is altogether different. A low and grinding riff is the back runner and high vocals allow the song to be a clash of sound, that’s pretty breathtaking. Again there are some awesome strings and quite powerful messages delivered to the listener. Maintaining the theme ‘Automatic’ also has a soul ripping riff. As the words fade and the riff re-enters orbit, there’s a feel of loving despondency that makes it wonderfully attractive. Penultimate number ‘Ain’t Gonna Dance’ is free flowing and reaches a higher altitude, gripped by the biting chorus, it gets you way before the last note. ‘Broken Crown’ is a superb one to end on, having a heaving bass and superb downward spiralling rhythm. The ‘Molly’s’ take you with them on this one and altogether ‘Breaking Out’ has been a spectacular journey.

‘Nothing short of pulverising perfection’.
