ROB MOSS & SKIN-TIGHT SKIN / RECORDS – 19/9/24

In the early 1980’s, over in Washington DC a young Rob Moss was a fixture on the Punk Scene, playing bass in bands such as ‘Government Issue’ and ‘Artificial Peace’. These were bands with proto-punk attitude, songs lasted under 2 minutes and were thrown out with anti everything, even gravity.

OZZY McG / ATOMIC BOOGIE – SINGLE  21/10/24

A year ago Oz McGowan, or Ozzy McG to the music world, faced a challenge by a friend. To compose a ‘Boogie-Woogie’ song that took in modern day techniques. To write an up to date ‘Hybrid’ that spanned nearly 100 years of musical history. For the songwriter, this was something he couldn’t resist and ‘Atomic Boogie’ is the result.

PHIL STANLEY / BACK TO ZERO  – 31/08/24

A few years ago, I was down at the now defunct 'Iron Road' venue in Evesham, for Marco Mendoza or The Quireboys, I can’t recall who. However, the support band came on and I was surprised at how good the singer was, I don’t think they actually fitted the bill, maybe they were a last minute call up, but nonetheless I was taken with that voice. They were called ‘The 3 Sixties’ and that vocalist was Phil Stanley. These days my friend Loz Rabone is in the band and they gig regularly around Birmingham and the Midlands. Loz is such a talented songwriter, I’ve reviewed his solo work in the past, so when he asked me to write about his latest project that featured Phil, I couldn’t resist !

STEVE VINCENT / THE BEST KEPT SECRET IN ROCK ’N’ ROLL – 25/10/24

Raised on the likes of Elvis and Glam Rock, Steve grew up in the 70’s and started playing guitar from an early age. The influences were immeasurable back in those days, like Steve I watched Top of The Pops, bought weekly mags like NME and Sounds and visited the local record shop to buy vinyl, sometimes just because the cover looked cool.

OVERDRIVE /  RESURRECTION – 31/8/24

1977, a year that saw a revolt in the music world, as bands began to deliver the NWOBHM, heavy metal and rock with renewed energy. While the majority have long gone, just remaining as part of musical history, the story isn’t over. Many of the bands continue playing gigs even specially themed festivals and of course, the likes of Saxon, Iron maiden and Judas Priest are still headlining major shows, with sell out audiences.

KLOGR / FRACTURED REALITIES – 31/10/24

Pronounced ‘Key-log-are’ and named after the law (S=KlogR), (Wiki is useful on occasion !) Klogr return after a seven year break and a new album, that was first created during lockdown. Having now reached completion’, Fractured Realities’ is a concept work from the Italian based quartet, who are led by vocalist/guitarist Gabriele ‘Rusty’ Rustichelli. The ten tracks reflect a journey of emotions, each one following Lila, a girl with a suitcase who battles against her fears and inner self to find an answer but the question is, does she find what she’s seeking in the end ? A tantalising and teasing album, with music that allows the listener to travel alongside the troubled Lila.

Live Review: BEN POOLE @ STUDIO FIVE LIVE (KEIGHLEY, BRADFORD) 12/10/2024

Performing blues rock with a liberal dusting of soul and his own unique style, Ben Poole has been making waves on the European circuits for the last decade or so and when I saw he was performing locally, I grabbed the opportunity to go and check him out. As a musician Poole is astounding, but add to that his vocal and songwriting abilities, plus Steve Amadeo on bass and Ollie Dixon on drums, it makes Poole a musical tour de force.
