Amigo The Devil is no stranger to songs that blend tales violence, love and sadness together, and new album “Yours Until The War is Over” is no different. For anyone who has listened to Amigo The Devil before, the album is exactly what you hope for and more. Slow, moody and heartfelt songs like The Mechanic mixed with the more uptempo, and raucous tragicomedies of songs like Once Upon a Time in Texaco, pt 1.

Songwriter, Danny Kiranos brings a high level of wit to the table when telling stories of addiction and loss, a phenomenally disarming technique that somehow manages to make you feel comfortable and almost safe, within the often unsettling topics of his songs. The eighth song on the album, The Cannibal Within, is a prime example of this. Portraying the horrifying struggles of addiction and the way it ravages who you are as a person, whilst midway through the song, with an almost bemused nature, Kiranos delivers the lines “In a major turn of events, it turns out i’m depressed”. Which, were it not for his signature humour I feel, is a passage that would normally feel quite dark, but somehow manages to come across as almost a fun revelation.

Yours Until The War is Over is not only versatile in the lyrical delivery, but manages to spread its wings across multiple different sounds, all while managing to remain consistent within its own folk roots. From wailing country guitars, to banjo chords that hop along at a jovially dark pace, Yours Until The War is Over really is interesting listening that never gets old, as it rarely repeats itself. With that said, as with most Amigo the Devil releases, this latest offering is a must listen for fans and non fans, rock lovers, and country lovers alike.
