For 22 years I’ve been a member of the Red & Black Army, Wednesday 13 and the Murderdolls will always have a particularly special hold on this Spooky Queen’s heart.
Every time I see them live (way too many to count) they will always take me back to the first time I heard them, that feeling, the people who you still connect with because a band made you feel part of something, and that fuck you attitude. There has been some great losses to the band, Joey and Ben were truly at the heart of the Murderdolls and there will be nothing like that again, but Wednesday is honouring the fallen dolls in a way in which they would be DAMN FUCKING PROUD! and keeping the Red & Black Army strong for the generations of rockers to come.
The show at KK’s was nothing other than special you could feel the vibe in the air (as you always can from the Wednesday 13 / Murderdolls fans) from the moment South of Salem took to the stage, the band hailing from Bournemouth, UK, have gained a cult following of their own, this can be seen by the crowd singing and dancing along to songs from their latest album Death of the Party, ‘Vultures’, ‘Jet Black Eyes’ and ‘Hellbound Heart’. They finished there energy filled set with my favourite ‘Cold Day in Hell’.
Next up was the Duke of Spook himself, The stage cast in darkness with the ‘Wednesday 13’ backdrop and drums illuminated in Red (of course), the ominous ‘The World According to Revenge’ playing as the band took to the stage with cheers, they thundered in to intro of ‘Chapel of Blood’ with Wednesday 13 running on stage screaming ‘Are you ready Motherfucker?!’ this when you know your in for one hell of a show.
Throughout the show we were treated to songs from across both beloved Murderdolls albums the 2002 release ‘Beyond the Valley of the Murderdolls’ and 2010’s ‘Women and Children Last’. No matter what era of FDQ, Murderdolls or Wednesday 13 you are from you never get made feel any different, everyone is there to enjoy the songs and stories from Wednesday and the band.
Trying to photograph one of your favourite bands while dancing around and sing at the top of your voice has become a skill, there is no way that you are able to stand still at a show like this.
Having played some fan favourites ‘197666’, ‘Graverobbing USA’, My Dark Place Alone’. Wednesday introduced the band members, this show he said he was going to introduce Ashes twice as he forgot to at the previous shows, telling the crowd to keep an eye out for Ashes on the new album that will be coming out soon! Having seen the band play many times, your could see that they were all enjoying themselves and it really shows in the energy and performance on stage. If you get a chance to see them on this tour before they leave the UK for Europe, defiantly make the trip it is well worth the show.
