14 October 2017

This July, Shadowflag packed their gear into a car and drove 1,435 miles across Europe to an old soviet ski resort deep in the Carpathian Mountains. Here, overlooking stunning scenery, they played a 45 minute show to a festival crowd with no previous contact with the UK’s metal underground.

Carpathian Alliance Music Festival is held in Western Ukraine annually and has seen a whole host of bands with global stature pass across the stage in recent years – including Behemoth, Watain and Immortal. The 2017 line up was topped by Norwegian black thrash kings Aura Noir and Irish folk metal’s Cruachan. Shadowflag became the second UK band ever to play the main stage – the other being Anaal Nathrakh.

Shadowflag has released live footage from the show of ‘The Brutality’. The track is from their very recently released third album ‘The Delusion Machine’. ‘The Brutality’ is the absolute core of what ‘The Delusion Machine’ is all about. It captures struggle, pain and fear but ultimately enlightenment. It’s a very key and highly significant track on the album.
Frontman, JJ Flames, had this to say; “To bring the dark sound of Shadowflag to lands far away from home was an honour for all of us. Carrying ideas and creations across a continent and then seeing the response of the fans in the great country of Ukraine was quite humbling. It reassured us that extreme music is alive and well – wherever you go. And nothing’s going to change that.”

‘The Delusion Machine’ was released in June 2017 and is available on digipak from shadowflag.bigcartel.com or to download on Bandcamp, iTunes, Amazon Mp3, Deezer, Spotify, Google Play and Tidal.

About Shadowflag

Based in Cheltenham, Shadowflag create soundscapes that primarily draw influence from black metal while allowing hints of thrash, doom and blackened metal to creep into their music. Incorporating poetry and spoken word, they mould their creations into more than simply music.

Built upon the premise that humanity’s existence is essentially, terrifyingly empty and without purpose ‘The Delusion Machine’ (2017) is Shadowflag’s greatest achievement to date. This third album sees the Shadowflag entity becoming something more frightening and yet more enticing and entrancing than ever before.
