ALIA TEMPORA / PUZZLE TREE / ATLAS RISE  – COBBLESTONES  3/5/24 

On my way home from touring Devon and Cornwall, I broke the journey up by staying in Bridgewater overnight. Just so happened there were bands on at The Cobblestones so it was a no brainer to attend and also check this well liked venue out. A small and cosy pub in the heart of town, with the building at the rear, set aside for live music. I found it quite friendly and rather quaint, no wonder Graham Hodgson hasn’t any trouble booking bands, amazingly tonights headliners are all the way from the Czech Republic.

NEW SAINTS / RESONATE EP  –  9/2/24  

A four track EP hails the return of this much loved Black Country band. RESONATE sees founder members Connor Emms on vocals and drummer Des Wootton joined by Jon Hayward on bass and Rob Grosvenor on guitar. They are taking it a bit easy for a short while as Des is recovering from an operation, however, the band will be hitting stages soon to promote this new masterpiece. Last year saw the beginning of the restructuring with the EP being recorded and then produced by Andy Mills then a support show with Geoff Tate, where the guys were applauded by the audience who chanted their name out loud, in the full venue. After a hiatus of 12 years, following the sad passing of bassist Andy ‘Spon’ Spencer, the NEW SAINTS are back.

DEMENTIA AWARE FESTIVAL / STATION CANNOCK  – 20/1/24 

The first gig of the year for me, after a bit of a break, I’m starting to get back into the swing of things. What better way to get the 2024 ball rolling than the Dementia Aware Fest at the Station in Cannock. I met Dave Evans on the door and got a massive hug, so good to see him although sadly this is the last ‘Dementia’ he’s organising. As soon as I walk into the venue I bump into friends I haven’t seen for months and some have travelled quite a long way to be here today. It’s like a big party to be honest, the atmosphere is so laidback and it seems everyone knows each other, by the end of the night I’m sure we’ll all be linked on social media !

PROMETHIUM / BLEEDING THE GHOST – 24/11/23 

‘Prometheus’ stole fire from the gods to give to mankind, the chemical element ‘Promethium’ was named after him. This five piece have also taken the name of that rare metal, which is both dazzling and radiant. If I listen to a few of my friends, who have seen them play live, they match the criteria in every way. A rare type of metal that is lustrous in appearance.

DIABLOFURS / WELCOME TO THE CITY OF FUN – 27/10/23 

This is the sophomore album from Diablofurs, a follow-up to their 2020 ‘Neon Satellites’. This is a continuation of the Pop/Punk theme, which lead man Robert Vincent could write a book about. Robert and his brother Lee were together in BIRDLAND from 1988 to 1993, reaching number 1 in the indie charts with the single ‘Hollow Heart’.

NWOCR LIVEFEST 2 / KKS STEEL MILL – Day 1  23/9/23  

Richard Brindley and his crew certainly know how to whet your appetite for their events, the build up for NWOCR LIVEFEST 3 has been enormous. This long awaited and epic occasion has finally arrived and judging by the amount of folk in KK’s at 2pm, it’s going to be a scorcher. LIVEFEST 3 also coincides with the launch of the NWOCR Volume 2 compilation CD, which was released on September 22nd and many of the bands appearing over the weekend, have songs on the double CD package that has over 40 tracks. There’s a whole pile of NWOCR Merch to be found on the Website including that collectable Tea Towel !
