Exeter wouldn’t be the first location that springs to mind as a hub for heavy music with its archaic Roman ruins and 11th Century cathedral, but a force not to be reckoned with lies deep within this city that brims with history. It’s been 3 years since their last release; however 4-piece alternative metallers SANGUINE have returned with a vengeance and are armed with the ferociously pummelling and anarchy-fuelled anthem, SOCIAL DECAY. And they’re bringing it to the masses with their DIY spinoff of the 1930s propaganda film Reefer Madness.

Originally created to shun the recreational use of marijuana, Reefer Madness follows the somewhat melodramatic downfall of characters who partake. The storyline follows a hit and run, murder, suicide, attempted rape, hallucinations and general insanity – a fitting montage for the chaotic sound of SOCIAL DECAY. Embracing 1930s fashion and juxtaposing all notions of what a metal band should look like,SANGUINE make their cameo in a performance for the protagonists. The decision to do a Reefer Madnessvideo came from the band’s optimistic and liberal attitude.

“The name ‘Sanguine’ represents us best as people. We are fairly optimistic and positive, so the ‘Social Decay’ video pokes fun at the attitude that our society is constantly under threat. We hear it all the time, ‘smoking marijuana will ruin your life’, ‘eating this will kill you’ , ‘the world is going to end tomorrow’. It’s about people being scared to LIVE in the world they exist in, a song against propaganda and the control that the government has over our belief systems. We don’t like to be told what to think and feel!”
– Tarin Kerrey, Vocals

Having formed at University out of a mutual love for rock music, this was never simply a hobby forSANGUINE who went at full throttle from the word go. Relentlessly gigging their local circuit and crafting a fiercely loyal fan base along the way, their first release was hugely anticipated and came in the form of 2009’s debut EP Live, Consume, Drive which instantly perked up the ears of Kerrang! Radio and Scuzz TV.2012 followed with their self-titled debut album, produced with the help of Mikee Goodman (Sikth). Widespread praise for the record landed the band a plethora of supports including Megadeth, Cancer Bats,Skindred, OPM and The Defiled, alongside appearances at Download Festival and Hard Rock Hell Ibiza.

Frontwoman Tarin Kerrey’s vocals are the thread that ties SANGUINE‘s sound together. Her phenomenal vocal range, from her frantic, banshee-esque screams, to her almost hypnotic angel-like vocals, and ‘take no prisoners’ attitude impressed Mikee so much that she was asked to guest as backing vocalist to Primal Rock Rebellion’s first album Awoken Broken (2012), a joint project between the Sikth vocalist and Adrian Smith (Iron Maiden).

SANGUINE are truly resurrected and gearing up for their behemoth sophomore release BLACK SHEEP onOctober 2nd through OMN Label Services. The band travelled to the European metal capital of Sweden to craft and record their second album which was produced by Daniel Flores (Crucified Barbara, Seventh Wonder) and features melodic metal guru Jesper Strömblad (ex-In Flames). With a relentlessly brilliant finished record, it’s only a matter of time until this Exeter 4-piece become a household name for rock and metal fans worldwide.
