The riffs are big, the pace is frenetic, and as well as some superb melodies, Struck Dead by Trivium offers up everything vocally. I don’t think there is any question about the fury that that Struck Dead unleashes; with an opener that could melt your face off, it signposts back to Trivium’s earlier days.
Grammy nominated Trivium retain their line-up of Matthew K. Heafy on vocals and guitar, Corey Beaulieu on guitar, Paolo Gregoletto on bass and Alex Bent on drums. Produced by Trivium, Struck Dead was recorded with Mark Lewis at the Hangar Studios and mixed and mastered by Josh Wilbur.

Back in 2023, Trivium were preparing for The Poisoned Ascendancy Tour – which would celebrate the 20th anniversary of Ascendancy – while also focusing on building their own studio. As the studio build was a long process, they decided to write a single to release during the tour. This eventually ended up as the three singles on Struck Dead.
Gregoletto commented that “During that time, the energy of revisiting Ascendancy started bleeding into these new songs. Matt poured a lot of his personal struggles from the past year into the music, and we used the writing process as a cathartic release. Those sessions evolved into a three-song EP that we’re incredibly proud of……”.
If you were lucky enough to catch the guys at Bloodstock this year, then you will already have heard the EP’s opener, Bury Me With My Screams, if not, then be prepared for one extreme ride. You can check out the official video here:
The intensity continues into Struck Dead (Pain Is Easier To Remember) and for me, the lyrics were particularly catchy on this one; drawing me in from the very first listen. Once more, the musical journey is one of extremes and there are some real stand out vocals from Heafy along the way. The opener to the final Six Walls Surround Me is pretty much the calm before storm blows back in. This track also offers up a high octane drumline and blistering riff in the bridge. Struck Dead may only be 18 minutes long, but there is very little let up within that time from the speed and fury that Trivium unleash.
You can listen to Struck Dead on the usual streaming platforms as well as on Trivium’s website, X and Facebook.
