I’m pleased to report that Rush Of Power by Steel Inferno does exactly what it says on the album cover. Released this week, good melodies along with consistently heavy and fast riffs, bass, and drum lines make Rush Of Power a real pleasure to listen to.
Based in Denmark, Steel Inferno was formed by guitarist and songwriter Lars Lyndorff and drummer Krzysztof Baran in 2012, and they released their first album Aesthetics of Decay in 2016. Followed up by And the Earth Stood Still in 2020, they inducted new singer Chris Rostoff into the band before releasing Evil Reign in 2022.
Rush Of Power is their fourth studio album and was produced by Marco Angioni (Iron Fire, Meridian and Tygers of Pan Tang). The album also continues to showcase how Steel Inferno’s well-rounded sound has gradually evolved from more Priest/NWOBHM into pre/thrash such as early Metallica and Slayer and the early power bands such as Jag Panzer and Fates Warning. As well as time in the studio, Steel Inferno are frequently out on the road and have supported numerous bands such as Cauldron, Iron Fire, Ranger and Tyranex. They are also regulars at European metal festivals.

Taking a bit more of a detailed look at the tracks on Rush Of Power, the edgy opener The Abyss sets the speed tempo of the album and we are soon introduced to some powerful riffs well supported with a high-octane drum line. Cut Down By The Chainsaw takes the speed up a notch and for me this is at the first point when Rostoff’s adaptable vocals really shine through. The catchy chorus and more good guitar by Lyndorff and Jens Andersen add to this track. Hunt The Rush and Power Games both have strong vocal openers, and I have to say that the latter was a particular favourite of mine – along with some decent headbanging, I thought the lyrics were particularly catchy on this track as well as having a good melody running through.
Bassist Thierry Zubritovsky really comes to the front in Electrocuter and like the previous tracks, there is some decent guitar in there as well. You can watch the official video for Electrocutor here:
Cathedral Run and The Blitz are no holds-barred speed metal and although you don’t think things can get any more intense, the penultimate track Attack soon changes your mind. Finally, with its slower yet heavier start, Coven In The Dark is one of the longest tracks on the album and with its slow fade out, makes it an ideal closing track.
I would definitely say if you enjoy metal at full throttle with a dusting of early thrash and classic heavy metal, then Rush Of Power is a “must have” for your collection.
Rush Of Power is released on the 29th November 2024 and you can listen to the album on the main streaming platforms including Spotify and Apple Music. Limited edition coloured vinyl can also be ordered from exclusively from Mephisto.
