Revolutionist is the debut album from Bristol Based band, Drip Fed Empire.
After initially forming in 2016, the “energetic, dystopian crew” suffered several personal changes that ultimately lead to a hiatus.
Steaming back in 2021, rapidly building their fan base and performing a number of live shows in the UK and Germany, supporting the likes of Hacktivist, Atilla and Electric Callboy to name a few. The band have now released this album made of pure dynamite. “Revolutionist”, the debut album from the Bristol based 4 piece “Drip Fed Empire”.
These lads are a “Band of brothers with a political voice and a strong social conscience and this is illustrated through their engrossing and powerful lyrical subjects”.
Recorded in 2023 at Hidden Track Studios (Architects, Neck Deep, Holding Absence, Loathe) and produced by the highly respected Oz Craggs. The end result smacks, hard! It’s a dystopian work of art, full of huge beats, hard-hitting breakdowns and electronic magic.
Kicking of the experience with a slow build up of energy, courtesy of industrial influences. Intro track 1 “Wondering Soul” swiftly and seamlessly transfers into the second track “Give Me More”, which it certainly does exactly what it says on the tin. More and then some. Punching you in your ear holes with a Metalcore X Industrial sound not too dissimilar to what you would expect from a band like Static X or Enter Shikari, but they have made the style their own. Full of synth wizardry, it really gets you pumped up. For me, it is the perfect album to have playing when you’re having pre-drinks or getting ready for a gig. It amps you up, so much it should come with a safety warning*
The bands musical influences really shine through on virtually the whole album. The band is often compared to the likes of Rage Against The Machine, Enter Shikari and Bring Me The Horizon. These comparisons are spot on in my opinion, but you could add even more in there too. Listening to lead vocalist Jay he often has a sound to make you wonder if Jonathan Davies of Korn fame is featuring on the track, this is evident on the tracks “Arcane” and “Digital Drug” which also has a smack of Drum’n’Bass about it.
Watch “Arcane” here:
The only minor stumble for me is track 6, “System Reset”. Although the female AI style voice tells the narrative of a future dystopian “Big Brother” controlling the listener. For me, it just doesn’t fit with the overall feel of the Album. Luckily it doesn’t detract from the quality of the rest of the music on offer.
The stand out tracks for me however has to be “MK4” which mixes a butt-tonne of musical inspiration together into a genre melding master piece. It’s loud and in your face just like it should be from a band of this style. The other is “Arcane”, a full throttle metalcore track with plenty of heavy beat drops and meaningful lyrics.
All in all, Drip Fed Empire, Revolutionist is a solid piece of work with lots on offer for everyone to enjoy. And I for one will trying to get some tickets to see “Drip Fed Empire” at a live show as soon as possible.
“It’s a dystopian work of art, full of huge beats, hard-hitting breakdowns and electronic magic.”
