Ever since I was 12 I’ve been in love with all things fast and heavy. The music of Evile changed my life in a way that lead to a burgeoning love of thrash metal. As time has passed I’ve developed my tastes further and now I’m immersing myself in the world of hardcore. If it makes me feel like I can headbutt down a brick wall chances are I’ll love it. Trap Them and Every Time I Die are recent favourites, but I’ll always carry a flame for Machine Head
Jon E Smoke
John E Smoke should have been born in Wolverhampton but was instead born in Stone which, if you think about it, is a kind of rock. He is proud of his family’s black country roots in the home of heavy metal. Like a lot of people, his first taste of the heavy stuff came from watching top of the pops as a child. The band in question was Iron Maiden and John’s eyes and ears were opened to the world of heavy. His first proper gig was The Almighty in Wolverhampton, quickly followed by Sepultura.

Growing up in a house where the likes of Deep Purple and Rainbow were played regularly, it would be unusual if I hadn’t become a huge fan of rock music! I enjoy everything from across the rock and metal spectrum, but my heart lies with the riffs and melodies produced by the likes of Iron Maiden, Alter Bridge and Trivium (to name but a few). I am always excited by new music and am here to give my penny’s worth on the latest the rock/metal scene has to offer.
As a teenager I discovered rock through Def Leppard, Guns N Roses and Aerosmith. My tastes have varied over the years (I spent a good deal of time in Indie clubs for several years) and I listen to lots of different styles of music, but I always come back to classic rock n roll as my deep-rooted true love. I’m passionate about continuing the rock scene for years to come and giving new blood bands a good shot, so you’ll find me hanging out at local bars and clubs rather than arenas, and being a short arse I’m usually at the front.

I'm Rachel. Rock and metal music was something I got into as soon as I heard it at about 11 years old. This led to my entire teen years being spent at shows (bless my mother for coming with me when I was too young to go), and at pigeon park and teenculture (my fellow brummies will hopefully understand me here). I've seen everything from Lamb Of God, to Nightwish, to All Time Low, to Nickelback, and I love it all
I first heard Black Sabbath, a band I share a birthplace with, when I was 13. They scared the life out of me, but I was hooked. My favourite bands these days are Mastodon, Baroness, Conjurer, Sleep, Trivium, Boss Keloid and Alice in Chains, but I always have time for the Iommian riffs that captivated me as a young boy. When I'm not at gigs or promoting bands for the Diaries of Doom YouTube channel, all my free time goes towards writing and performing my own bands' music.
Pop punk... deathcore... emo... metalcore... Thrash metal... World War 1 themed blackened Death Doom... I'd like to think that over the last few years i've taken an interest in a good variety of music in the metal scene. I may not have been listening to metal as long as some others, but i've thrown myself into the deep end of this epic scene and moshed to almost everything.
My passion for Metal and Rock was ignited when I discovered Motörhead in 2011, a band that will rigidly remain as my favourite for eternity. Since then, Metal has formed an indelible part of my identity, as I love to listen and research bands of all genres and sizes. Although I do have a tendency to lean towards heavy metal and thrash! To me, there is no other feeling that quite matches the sensation of losing yourself in an album or witnessing the sheer power of a bands live performance.
From an early age it was Rock that spun on my turntable mainly Sabbath , Zeppelin and Purple . As my Album collection grew , so did the urge to see my favourite Bands in concert , before long I was attending gigs far and wide ( I still do !) This led me to writing reviews as Dee Dee for Fanzines in the 1990s , including Ruff Diamond , Splitting Headache and Smokin Dragon and contributing to Brum Beat occasionally . After a long hiatus , just like vinyl , I’m returning to something I love doing !
I’ve been listening to alternative music my entire life, with my first influences coming from my parents. I’d listen to Aerosmith and Guns N Roses, then years later sitting in my cousin’s car while they played me Evanescence and Good Charlotte. From there I forked out into metal core when I was in year 10. Since I was young I knew music would always be close to me and play a very big role in my life, and so working along side it is more than a dream come true. I now spend most of my time listening to Motionless In White, Rammstein and Architects.
I’ve always been heavily involved within the world of music, whether its playing instruments, singing in a choir, or just listening, I’ve always wanted to be a part of the action. My love of metal came about from playing guitar hero, listening and playing along to bands like Dragonforce, Maiden, Killswitch and Slipknot and since then I’ve been a full on devoted metalhead. Although I’ll happily listen to any kind of metal, nowadays I’m mostly into metalcore bands like Crystal Lake and Killswitch as well as some Nu metal and Death metal to balance it all out.
I discovered MMH through the other half, who is a DJ for the station. I love music, and enjoy admin, so applied for the role, and here we are……….. It was no surprise really, that I ended up loving Rock Music, having grown up hearing the likes of Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy and Queen. My love of Rock Music and gigs/festivals, grew massively back in August 1990, at The Monsters of Rock Festival, Donnington. I never looked back from that point. My personal favourites include Guns n Roses, Whitesnake, Metallica, and more recently Inglorious.
